Eileen Neville(1941-2013)


Dr. Eileen B. (Murphy) Neville, 71, of Pomeroy St., Easthampton, passed away suddenly at her home.
She was born in Northampton, April 3, 1941, the daughter of the late Patrick and Mary (Scanlon) Murphy. She was educated at the former St. Michael School in Northampton and graduated from St. Michael High School, then graduated from the Providence Hospital School of Nursing in Holyoke.
Eileen earned a Bachelors, Masters and Doctorate in Nursing Administration and was especially proud of becoming certified as a mental health specialist at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst. Eileen had a long and rewarding career as both a professor and then as the Dean of Nursing at Springfield Technical Community College for more than 20 years, retiring in 2003.
Previously Eileen had been employed as a nurse at the Veteran's Administration Hospital in Leeds, MA. She was a communicant of the former Immaculate Conception Church and more recently was a parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. She was a member of the Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the National Nursing Honor Society, a member of the UMass Alumni Association, and a member of the Mass Teachers Association.
Her beloved husband, John J. Neville, died while serving in the U.S. Air Force in 1971.
She leaves her loving daughter, Connecticut State Prosecutor Debra A. Collins, and her husband, Charles; her cherished grandchildren, Lexi and Kylie; her siblings Mary Fearns, Patrick Murphy, and John Murphy; and her many nieces and nephews. Eileen also leaves her long time caring companion, Dave Bacis, of Easthampton.
Calling hours will be held Wednesday 9:00 a.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., Easthampton until the service, which begins at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Parish Church. Burial will be at convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Eileen Neville Scholarship Fund at Springfield Technical Community College, 1 Armory Square, Springfield, MA 01105.
