GREENFIELD - Gayle P. (Bristol) Work, 66, a former Northampton city government employee, died at her Greenfield home Friday, Feb. 1 following a brief illness.
Born Jan. 29, 1947 in Greenfield, Gayle was the daughter of Edward and Mary (Bonneville) Bristol. She was a graduate of Greenfield High School.
She was employed as a secretary for the city of Northampton for approximately 15 years before her retirement.
Gayle was a volunteer and supporter of the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). She had also volunteered at St. James Episcopal Church and was a poll worker for the town of Greenfield.
She is survived by her daughter, Kendra Canon, and her husband, Dan, of Greenfield; two brothers, Alan Bristol of Vernon, VT and John Bristol of Shelburne Falls; a sister, Barbara Hicks of Bonita Springs, FL; and her grandchildren Caleb Bristol and Nathaniel, Alyssa and Emily Gayle Canon.
Gayle was predeceased by her husband, Dennis M. Work, who died May 25, 2001.
A memorial service will take place Saturday, Feb. 8 at 11 a.m. at the Smith-Kelleher Funeral Home, 87 Franklin St., Greenfield. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.
A visiting hour will precede the funeral service from 10 to 11 a.m. on Saturday.
