CUMMINGTON - George D. Leigh Sr., 77, of Harlow Road in Cummington passed away Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at Linda Manor Extended Care Facility, surrounded by loving family members.
He was born Sept. 25, 1936, the son of the late George and Natalie (Knight) Leigh. He was raised and educated in Amherst, attending local schools there.
He was a U.S. Army
veteran of the Korean conflict
, serving with the 101st Airborne Division from 1954 to 1957. He then spent 25 years serving in the Air National Guard.
George worked as a nursing assistant for the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Leeds for many years before retiring. George loved the many busy activities of farming at his home including haying, gardening, raising horses, hunting, and cutting cord wood for himself and his kids.
He leaves his longtime partner, Patricia Stout of Cummington, and his children, Brenda Skorski, Donna Patenaude, George Leigh Jr., Jennifer MacDonald and Jeffery Leigh. He also leaves his brother, Fred Leigh and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, Earle W. Leigh. He also leaves his beloved dog, Lady.
