Grace Edith (Taylor) Markert(1915 - 2013)

CHICOPEE - Grace Edith (Taylor) Markert, 97, passed away Jan. 14, 2013.

She was born March 6, 1915, in Chicopee, daughter of the late Robert and Margaret (Hanley) Taylor.

She lived in Willimansett until her marriage to the late Herman A. Markert in 1948.

She was a member of Grace Episcopal Church, Order of the Eastern Star, the South Amherst Grange and the Amherst Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary.

In her earlier years, she was employed as a civilian at Westover Air Force Base, Springfield Armory and Sickles and volunteered for the U.S.O. during the war. Later, Edith established the copy center, now Print Services, at the University of Massachusetts.

Edith enjoyed her family and their many family vacations.

She is survived by her three children, Robert Markert and his wife Karen of Rowe, Grace Desrosier and her husband Philip of Haydenville and Barbara Talenda and her husband Edward of Belchertown; three grandchildren, William Markert and wife his Kirsten, Alan Markert and Michelle Talenda; and two great-grandchildren.

Calling hours will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Beers & Story Funeral Home in Belchertown.

Church services will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church, 14 Boltwood Ave., Amherst. Burial will follow at the South Amherst Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Shriner's Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA 01104.

Edith's family would like to extend their deepest gratitude to the nurses, administrators and staff at Linda Manor for the great care they gave their mother during her stay and to say thank you for the love and devotion shown.
