NORTHAMPTON - Jean H. Dunham Sr., 91, passed away Thursday, Feb. 28, 2013, at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born Oct. 22, 1921, in Northampton, Jean was the son of the late Henry and Bessie (Howes) Dunham.
He was educated in local schools and in New Jersey. He played semi-professional football in New Jersey for the Belleville Nutley Iron Dukes.
He was a World War II
veteran serving in the U.S. Army
. Later, Jean was an actuary for the Prudential Insurance, Co. for 25 years.
He lived in Cummington for many years where he belonged to the Cummington American Legion Post 304 and the 40 & 8 Voiture Local 474 of Massachusetts. He was an active member of the Cummington Congregational Church, the Cummington Grange and enjoyed luncheons and meetings at the Cummington Council on Aging. He loved living in Cummington and working at the community house. He enjoyed all sports, especially the Boston Red Sox, and loved working outdoors.
He is survived by his sister Barbara Goldsmith of Massachusetts and his son Jay Dunham Jr., and his wife Bonnie-Jo of New Jersey. He is also survived by three nieces and many cousins.
Services for Jean will be in the spring.
