Margaret M. "Peg" Brown(1924 - 2013)

NORTHAMPTON - Margaret M. Brown, a former resident of the Cahill House, 35 Fruit St., Northampton, died Jan. 4, 2013, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds.

Miss Brown, a longtime resident of the greater Fitchburg area, was born in Fitchburg on July 30, 1924, the daughter of James E. and Mary E. (Robinson) Brown.

She was predeceased by her two brothers, James E. and Stephen J.; her sister, Teresa J. Matthews; nephew, James Brown Jr. and niece Theresa Williams.

In addition to a sister-in-law, Lucille Brown of Tampa, Fla., she leaves five nieces, Sharon Baum of Westminster, Karen Duprey of Easthampton, Amy Plante of Acushnet, Joanne Wilson of Missouri and Debra Sparks of Lunenburg; eight nephews, Andrew Brown of Leominster, Dennis Brown of Meredith, N.H., Richard Brown of Amherst, N.H., Robert Brown of Westminster, William Brown of Gardner, Ronald Brown of Hull, John Brown of Gardner and Kevin Matthews of Leominster; many grand nieces and nephews and great-grand nieces and nephews. She also leaves her friend and close companion, James Weir of Northampton.

Margaret attended local Fitchburg schools and graduated from St. Bernard's High School, Fitchburg, with the class of 1942.

She worked for many years for the New England Telephone Co., and thereafter for several manufacturing companies and health care centers in the Fitchburg area.

As a resident of Fitchburg and Northampton, she was very involved in the Ladies Auxiliary of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles and was a communicant of Our Lady of the Lake Parish in the Whalom District of Leominster and the former St. Mary's Church in Northampton.

She loved to travel locally and especially enjoyed trips to Plum Island in the Cape Ann area. Miss Brown was very fond of horses and enamored with the color orchid/purple.

Margaret, or Peg, as she was called by her family and friends, was a devoted aunt and great aunt and loved to be involved in family gatherings, including the 60th wedding anniversary celebration in 2010 for her late sister and brother-in-law, Teresa and Gordon Matthews of Florence. She had been the maid of honor at their June 1950 wedding.

Graveside services and burial will be conducted at the Brown family plot at the North Cemetery, Holman Street, Lunenburg, at the convenience of the family. A memorial Mass will be held at Our Lady of the Lake Parish, Leominster, at a future date.
