NORTHAMPTON – Marie G. Emerson, 88, of Northampton, passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at her home.
Born in New York, Marie graduated from the Theodore Roosevelt High School in New York City.
She spent many of her summers in Plainfield and it was during one of these vacations that she first met her late husband, William H. Emerson. William and Marie married after he returned from serving his country during World War II. He predeceased Marie in 2007.
Marie and William lived in Plainfield for a while before settling in Northampton. Marie worked in the Northampton school system for 17 years as an administrative assistant. She worked at both the former D.A. Sullivan School and Northampton High School. Marie also worked with her husband for many years in his home building and remodeling businesses. William had built 67 homes in the area and had done countless remodeling jobs. Marie handled the office work and also became a Realtor.
Marie had been a communicant of the former Blessed Sacrament Church.
She is survived by her four children, Lawrence Emerson of Longmeadow, William E. Emerson of Westfield, Lorraine Cheney of Somers, Conn., and Thomas Emerson of Northampton, nine grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 18, 2013, at 11:30 a.m. at Pease and Gay Funeral Home, 425 Prospect St., Northampton. A calling hour will be held Monday from 10:30 until 11:30 a.m. Burial will be at St. Mary's Cemetery.
