HATFIELD - Mary Catherine (Bak) Pelis, 95, of Plantation Road, formerly of Hadley, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2013, at the Overlook of Northampton Nursing Home.
She was born Sept. 21, 1917, in Hadley, the daughter of the late Demetri and Katherine (Pekala) Bak.
Her husband Joseph P. Pelis died in 1971.
Mary was a communicant of the Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley where she was a member of the Polish Women's Alliance and the Rosary Sodality.
She is survived by her son Joseph Pelis, Jr., and his wife Judy of Hatfield; two grandsons, James and his wife Jennifer of Newton and Paul and his wife Heather of Hatfield; four great-grandchildren that she adored, Gus, Lydia, Maeve and Ryder; along with several nieces and nephews.
Mary was predeceased by her brothers, Michael Bak and Frank Bak and her sisters, Victoria Fydenkevez and Francis Duda.
Her family wishes to extend heartfelt appreciation to the nurses and staff at Overlook and also to the Overlook VNA and Hospice of Greenfield.
Mary's funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at the Most Holy Redeemer Church in Hadley at 10 a.m. Burial will follow at the Holy Rosary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Thursday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home.
