EASTHAMPTON - Oliver Press, 98, of Easthampton, died Monday, April 29, 2013, in his home.
He was born July 16, 1914, in Easthampton, the son of the late William and Martha Fieldhouse Press.
He attended Easthampton public schools and Smith Vocational School in Northampton where he learned the trade of electrician.
He retired in 1976 as an electrician at the University of Massachusetts Amherst in the engineering department. He was previously employed as a boiler fireman in the former Northampton State Hospital and Providence Hospital.
Ollie enjoyed his visits to Stratton, Vt., and York the University of Connecticut girls basketball team. He was a longtime member of the former Southampton Grange and his hobbies were fishing and gardening. People who knew Ollie relished his everyday smile, good humor and his love of life.
Ollie was predeceased by his wife Janet Roberts Snyder in 2012 and his wife Eleanor Smith in 1988.
Oliver is survived by four daughters, Patricia LaRochelle and companion John of Easthampton, Louise Doyle and husband Bob of West Enfield, Maine, Christy Brinkley and husband Les of Easthampton and Jane Stauffer and husband Rick of Yarmouth, Maine; two sons, Eric Snyder and wife Sue of Easthampton and John Snyder and wife Jane of Jacksonville, Ala.; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Phyllis Press of Easthampton; and many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday, May 7, from 11 to 1 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton. Graveside Service will follow in East Street Cemetery Easthampton.
