NORTHAMPTON – Robert ""Bob"" Allen Staples, 71, a 47 year resident of the Florence section of Northampton, died peacefully Monday, March 31, 2014, surrounded by his loving and caring family, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital.
Bob was born Sept. 9, 1942, in Northampton, and was the son of the late George Warren and Ida Caroline (Mielke) Staples. He was raised and educated in Easthampton.
He joined the National Guard and served with Company D 1st BG of the 104th Infantry until he enlisted into the United States Air Force
and was a Vietnam War
veteran serving from 1962 to 1966.
Upon his return from military duty, Bob worked as a truck driver for the former Calduwood Enterprise which became Duseau Trucking of Hatfield, for 45 years until his retirement some years ago.
He loved traveling, casino trips to Las Vegas, Nev., and his motorcycle rides with his late wife Madeline on his Suzuki Cavalcade.
Bob was married Jan. 14, 1967, to Madeline Dorothy (Bordwin) Staples and they celebrated 40 years of marriage together until her death April 27, 2007.
He is survived by three children, his two daughters, Patricia Ann Broden and her husband Joe of Northampton, Kimberly A. Rule and her fiancée Burt Church of Chesterfield, and one son, Thomas Michael Rule, Jr., and his wife Donna of Easthampton; seven grandchildren, Joey Broden, Jessica Broden, Stephanie Oleksak, Robert Staples, Thomas M. Rule, III, Andrew Richmond, Amanda Richmond; one sister, Linda Staples of Easthampton; two brothers, Phillip Staples of Easthampton, and David Staples and his wife Kay of Florida; his longtime companion Dorothy ""Dottie"" Beaulieu of Chesterfield; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was predeceased by his brother George Staples.
Funeral services for Bob will be held Monday, April 7, 2014, at 10 a.m. at the Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams St., Easthampton, followed by burial with military honors at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Northampton. Calling hours will be held Sunday, April 6, from 2 to 6 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home, who has been entrusted with providing for Bob's care and services.
