EASTHAMPTON - Sylvester "Sy" Mihovan, 96, of 100 Bassett Brook Drive and formerly of Lenox, died peacefully at his residence on Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012.
He was born June 4, 1916, in Boston, and was the son of George and Annie (Mnoholitney) Mihovan.
Sylvester was raised and educated in Everett and was a graduate from Everett High School with the Class of 1934. He then continued his education at the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, graduating in 1936, then in 1940 attended the Wentworth Institute.
Sylvester then entered the work force. His career started at the General Electric Company in Lynn, before transferring to the its Pittsfield location, where he worked for 38t years, retiring in 1979 as a Financial Analyst & Inventory control specialist.
While working in Pittsfield, he and his wife, Elizabeth Louise (Thresher) Mihovan, resided in Lenox, where they raised their three children and remained until Elizabeth's death on April 29, 1999, when he moved to Easthampton.
He was a very devoted member of the Trinity Episcopal Church in Lenox, where he was a Vestryman and past Treasure, and was a member of Saint Phillips Episcopal Church in Easthampton. His social life also involved being the past treasurer for both the 28 Couples Bridge Club and the Cranwell Golf League. Sylvester loved playing golf, traveling, gardening and woodworking.
Sylvester is survived by his loving family; a daughter Betsy P. Macdonald and her husband Greg of Florence; two sons Steven J. Mihovan of New York City, Frank G. Mihovan and his wife Patricia Crowley of Lexington; six grandchildren Hugh Macdonald and his wife Kelly, Carl Macdonald and his wife Heather, Andy Macdonald and his wife Brooke, Michael Mihovan and his wife Gabriela, Mary Mihovan and Catherine Mihovan; five great-grandchildren, Oscar, Aiden, Lucas, Kylie and Gavin; one brother Walter Mihovan of Everett; two sisters Mary Duggan of Winchester and Pauline Mihovan of Everett; cousins; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.
Sylvester was predeceased by his wife Elizabeth, and three brothers George Mihovan, Steven Mihovan and Victor Mihovan.
Sylvester's Funeral Services will be held on Friday, Nov. 9, 2012, at 10 a.m. at the Saint Paul's Episcopal Church, 26 Washington St., Malden, MA. He then will be laid to rest next to his beloved wife Elizabeth at the Forest Dale Cemetery in Malden. Calling hours for Mr. Mihovan will be held on Thursday Nov. 8 from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams St., Easthampton, who have been entrusted with providing for Sylvester's Care and Services.
