William K. Price(1931 - 2013)

SOUTH DEERFIELD - William K. Price, 82, husband of Irene Heinbach Price, of South Deerfield, died Feb. 8, 2013, at home.

William was born Jan. 28, 1931, in Hagerstown, Md., the son of Henry and Edith Price.

He attended Allegany High School and graduated from the University of Maryland in 1954. He received his master's of arts and his doctorate at the University of Wisconsin.

Mr. Price served three years in the United States Air Force from 1954 to 1957.

He was a professor of communication at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, from 1963 until 1996. He continued to teach until 2001. After retiring, he continued taking courses at Greenfield Community College.

His interests included reading, classical music and spending time with his family and grandchildren.

Wlliam is predeceased by his parents and brother, Thomas John (Jack) Price.

He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Irene Price; brother Henry Price of Florida; stepsons, Kenneth J. Torok Jr., and wife Judy of California, Michael S. Torok and wife You Chung of Connecticut and Daniel E. Torok and wife Maureen of Texas; grandchildren, Alexander, Kayleigh, Julia, Ryan, Autumn and Jason; nieces, Debi Bauman of Maine, Katharine Nelson of Hadley and Layne Poerstel of Hawaii; and several nieces and nephews.

A celebration of life service will be conducted by Rev. Barbara K. Seamon at the First Congregational Church, 91 South Main St., Sunderland, on Saturday, Feb. 16, at 1 p.m., followed by a reception in the Chapel.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be given in William's memory to First Congregational Church, Sunderland, or VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Dr., Suite 1, Northampton, MA 01060.

The family would like to thank the Center for Extended Care, Amherst, and Hospice for the loving care given to Mr. Price.
