HOLYOKE - William M. Callahan, 79, of Holyoke, died Sunday, Nov. 11, 2012, at his home in the loving company of his family.
He was born in Pittsfield, son of the late Maurice and Lillian (Lawless) Callahan. He was a graduate of St. Joseph High School in Pittsfield and Allied Institute in Chicago.
Bill was a United States Army
Veteran of the Korean War
and had been employed as an Engineer at James River Graphics and Revco Company in Agawam. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Council in Chicopee and American Legion Post 325 in Holyoke. Bill was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church in South Hadley, where he was a member of the Parish Council.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Helen M. (Madden) Callahan; two sons, Michael W. Callahan and his wife Ruth of Southampton and John P. Callahan and his wife Coleen of Attleboro; four daughters, Maureen Callahan and her husband Maurice Egan of Holyoke, Nancy M. Scanlon of Easthampton, Cathleen M. Bradlee and her husband Scott of Holyoke and Joan C. Tuttle and her husband William of Russell; nine grandchildren, Devin, Kathleen and John Egan, Sean, Ryan and Jack Callahan, Caela Scanlon and Coleman and Max Bradlee; and a sister Joan F. Fitzgerald of Mobile, Ala.
Bill will be remembered as a loving son, husband, father and grandfather. A man with a keen intellect, a wonderful sense of humor, a good friend and one who found great joy spending time with his family.
The funeral will be held Friday morning at 9 a.m. from the Barry J. Farrell Funeral Home, 2049 Northampton St., Holyoke, followed by a Mass in St. Patrick's Church, 30 Main St., South Hadley, at 10 a.m.
Burial will follow in St. Jerome Cemetery in Holyoke.
