HUNTINGTON - Kirk Eldredge Birrell, 84, son of the late Donald and Ruth Birrell, died Tuesday, June 25, 2013. Kirk was born April 4, 1929.

Since moving to Western Massachusetts from Bellbrook, Ohio, in 1974, he has been a long time resident of both Montgomery and Huntington.
Kirk graduated with a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Cornell University, and a Master of Business Administration from the University of Dayton.
He was a veteran, serving as a U.S. Army lieutenant in the Korean War.
He was an accomplished engineer and manager for the Bendix Corporation, and co-founder of Entre Computer Systems of West Springfield.
Kirk sang in, and traveled the world with several choral groups. He was an aviation enthusiast and flew well into his 70's while owning and managing a small aircraft leasing business. He was also an active member of the United Methodist Church. He volunteered with many organizations such as the Methodist Preachers Aid Society of New England, and as treasurer for the Hilltown Ambulance Association.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Natalie; son Norman and wife Sue; son Ken and wife Susie; son David and partner Debbie Lusignan; son Mark and wife Jennifer; son Ron and fiancée Michelle; 10 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and extended family.
Kirk was the patriarch of his large family and played the role with characteristic flair and dignity. His generosity, tolerance and love inspired devotion and respect from his clan, associates and friends alike. He will be sorely missed.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, July 13, at 11 a.m. at the Christ United Methodist Church, 271 Rocky Hill Road, Northampton.
