HATFIELD - Robert E. Slysz, Sr., 70, of 439 Main St., passed away Tuesday, Nov. 19, 2013, at home.

He was born July 5, 1943, in Northampton, the son of the late Stanley and Stella (Kumiega) Slysz. He graduated from Smith Academy in Hatfield.

He was a U.S. Army veteran serving with the National Guard. Robert married his wife Elaine in 1965 and they started their family.

Bob worked as an equipment operator for the former Osley Brothers in Hatfield and Bruschi Brothers for many years before retiring.

He enjoyed spending time with his family and especially enjoyed playing cards with the grand kids. His wife Elaine (Mieczkowski) passed away in 2010.

He leaves his children Robert E. Slysz, Jr., and his wife Susan; his daughter Lisa M. Slysz; his grandchildren Tara Slysz, Robert E. Slysz, III, and Nataly Slysz; his siblings Stanley Slysz and his wife Roberta, William Slysz and his wife Lorna, Richard Slysz and his wife Louise, Darleen Slysz and Bonnie Weeks and her husband Greg; and several nieces and nephews.

Calling hours will be Sunday, from 2 to 5 p.m. at the Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton with a religious service at 5 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Hatfield Ambulance fund, Town Hall, 59 Main St., Hatfield, MA 01038.
