SOUTH HADLEY - Walter A. Skwira of South Hadley passed away Feb. 20, 2014, in Charlene Manor in Greenfield.
He was born Dec. 12, 1948, in Holyoke, the son of Joseph and Victoria (Wawroch) Skwira. He was raised in South Hadley and attended South Hadley School and was a 1966 graduate of South Hadley High.
He was an Army Veteran, entering the service in 1969 and serving in the Vietnam Conflict. During his service, Walter received the Purple Heart w/OLC. Mr. Swira was a member of the Hadley American Legion Post 162. Walter worked for many years for the Commonwealth in the Park division, retiring in the 2009.
Walter is survived by His brother Stanley Skwira and his wife Pamela of Southampton, a niece, Tonya Skwira-GuYette and her husband Marc of Westfield, one nephew, Jerrett Skwira and his wife Athena of their children Ariana and Abigail, all of Westfield.
A Military Service will be held at the Massachusetts Veteran Memorial Cemetery in Agawam on_March 7_at 1 p.m. Memorial gifts in his memory may be made to the Wound Warriors Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas, 66675. www.mitchellcofuneralhome.com
