NORTHAMPTON - Atron Adrian Gentry Sr. passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 6, 2017, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital, Northampton.

He was born to Hannah McCray and Horace Gentry. He is survived by his son Atron Adrian Jr., a.k.a. Tiger Gentry, grandson Yahn R.C. Gentry and granddaughter Caylin P.A. Gentry.

Atron's life and work was anchored by the conviction that the least among us, if given the chance, could succeed - he called it 'the hope factor'. Born on a chicken farm in El Centro, California, in the middle of the desert, he was a living example. He was the first sibling out of seven that went to college and earned a doctorate degree in education. He was a hard working man and educator who told the best stories and would garner camaraderie with his most infectious laugh.

Services for the celebration of Atron's life will be held Thursday, Jan. 12, at 1 p.m. at Douglass Funeral Home, 87 North Pleasant St., Amherst.
