EASTHAMPTON - Caroline Zawacki, 93, formerly of Ballard Street, Easthampton, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 25, 2013, at the Linda Manor Extended Care Facility in Leeds.
She was born in Southbridge June 23, 1919, the daughter of Valentine and Michaelina (Bartnikowska) Bialecki. Caroline moved to Easthampton as a child and was a graduate of Easthampton High School.
She had been employed at Lesnow's Manufacturing Co. in Easthampton.
A communicant of the former Sacred Heart Church, she was a parishioner of the Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. Caroline had been a very active member at the former Sacred Heart Parish, volunteering in the former Sacred Heart School kitchen, as a member and past president of the school PTA, at the parish picnics, as a teacher in the CCD program, and as a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality. Caroline had also volunteered as a Brownie troop leader.
She enjoyed taking classes at the Helen Hills Institute in Florence and was accomplished in rug hooking and braiding, oil and theorem painting, furniture refinishing, and chair caning. She loved gardening, knitting and reading non-fiction books.
Caroline enjoyed traveling, taking trips to Europe, the Holy Land, and various places throughout the U.S.
Caroline was predeceased by her beloved husband of 60 years, Matthew A. Zawacki, and by her beloved son, David T. Zawacki. She leaves her loving children, Richard M. Zawacki and his wife, Jane, of Southport, N.C., and Anne L. Zawacki of South Hadley; a cherished grandson, Andrew Zawacki of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; and many caring nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Tuesday at noon at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1 p.m. at the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St. Burial will be in the St. Stanislaus Cemetery. All are in Easthampton. Calling hours will be held Mondaytoday from 4 to 7 p.m.
Caroline's family would like to acknowledge and extend a special thanks to the home health aides for their care and support in her home and the staff of Linda Manor for their love and compassionate care of their beloved mother these many months.
In lieu of flowers, the family would ask that memorial gifts be made to Linda Manor Forest View Unit, 349 Haydenville Rd., Leeds, MA 01053, or to the VNA/Hospice, 168 Industrial Dr., Northampton, MA 01060.
