SUNDERLAND - David Marcus, 24, died unexpectedly on Tuesday, May 22, 2012, at his home in Sunderland.

David was born Feb. 1, 1988, in Santa Cruz, Calif., to Elizabeth Hart of Amherst and Michael Marcus of Bothell, Wash.
He was a Commonwealth Honors College student at the University of Massachusetts, majoring in philosophy with minors in information technology and professional technical writing. He also worked as a software assistant at RVPM Designs in Amherst.
David was a brilliant thinker, writer and an exceptionally talented musician. He played in several prominent area bands as drummer, guitarist and vocalist.
David leaves his mother and father; his brother Christopher Marcus; his grandparents Robert Hart and Marc and Susan Marcus; his uncles Dan and Ben Marcus; his half-brother Nathan; and nephew Gabriel. He also leaves his partner Nika Tomasic; his beloved golden retriever Donnie; as well as countless friends and band mates. He is missed beyond measure.
A service will be held for David on Monday, June 4, at 11 a.m. at Grace Episcopal Church on the Town Common in Amherst. A special music prelude will begin shortly after 10:30 a.m. An additional memorial gathering, with local bands and remembrances from family and friends, will be held later this summer.
