EASTHAMPTON – Edward Peter Dolat Sr., 89, of Mill Street, Easthampton, died on Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at Cooley Dickinson Hospital.

He was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Holyoke and was the son of Peter and Marie (LaChance) Dolat.

Edward moved to Easthampton in his youth and was educated in Easthampton public schools. After his schooling, he enlisted into the United States Navy and he served his country during World War II from 1942 to 1945. Before going to war, he married the former Martha Jane (McDonald) Dolat on Aug. 5, 1944 and most recently celebrated 68 years of marriage together.

Ed worked as a machine operator for many factories in the area, including the former Hampton Speciality and Kellogg Brush Companies. He also for many years could be found working with his brother Joe at Joe's business, Dolat's Lawnmower Service Repair in Easthampton. He was a very talented artist, painter and craftsman, who also loved making boats, hunting and fishing.

Besides his wife Martha, he is also survived by his two daughters, Kathreen Marie Tessier of South Hadley and Pricilla Ann Paquette and her husband Nelson E. Paquette of Hadley; four grandchildren and their spouses, Tracey and Lori (Sanfratello) Tessier of Rio-Rancho, N.M., Todd and Colleen (Doyle) Tessier of Groton, Kim (Tessier) and Jarrett Colpack of Easthampton, Justin and Bethanne Rogers of New Jersey; five great-grandchildren, Jacob Tessier, Trent Tessier, Jordan Jekanowski, Jacob Jekanowski and Emily Jean Roger and one brother, Joseph T. Dolat of Easthampton.

He was predeceased by his infant son, Edward Peter Dolat Jr., who died one month after his birth; a daughter, Deborah Jean Rogers, in 2004; two brothers, Victor Dolat and Henry Dolat and two sisters, Pauline LaFrenier and Irene Popielarczyk.

At Edward's request, all services and burial with military honors at Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam are private and at the convenience of the family.

Donations in his memory are requested to the VNA Hospice Alliance of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Dr., Northampton, MA. 01060.

The Graham Funeral Home, 18 Adams St., Easthampton, has been entrusted with providing for Edward's care and services.
