EASTHAMPTON - Esther B. (Proffitt) Farrell, formerly of Easthampton and Northampton, passed away peacefully at Mary's Meadow in Holyoke.

She was born in Detroit, the daughter of the late Homer and Nellie (Daley) Proffitt.
She was educated in the local schools and attended the University of Detroit.
Esther had been employed at the Marygrove College in Detroit and for the Detroit Board of Education before moving to and settling in Easthampton. Locally Esther had been employed for many years by the Alumni Association for Smith College, retiring in 1985.
Esther was a longtime communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church, now Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Easthampton. She was a member of the Parish Woman's Club, the daughters of Isabella and a member of the St. Zita Club. Esther was a long time member and volunteer at the Jericho House in Holyoke.
Her beloved husband, James E. Farrell, passed away in 1998.
She leaves her two god-children, Theresa (Bouthilette) Sarna of Granby and Robert Rose of Wyoming, Mich.; her many cousins, and a host of devoted friends.
Calling hours will be held Monday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the O'Brien Funeral Home, 17 Clark St., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial 11 a.m. at the Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St. Burial will be in the Brookside Cemetery. All are in Easthampton.
