SUNDERLAND – Frances M. Kulessa, 93, of 297 Montague Road, Sunderland, died early Tuesday, April 30, 2013, in the New England Health Center in Sunderland.

She was born Jan. 31, 1920, in Hadley, the daughter of Daniel and Mary (Oshepa) Dudkiewicz.
Frances was educated in Hadley schools. In her early years, she worked in a hat shop in Holyoke. She later married Alec Kulessa in the Holy Name of Jesus Church in South Deerfield, by the Rev. Fr. Joseph Allen. All of their married life was in Sunderland. Alec predeceased her in 1990.
She was an active member of the Holy Name of Jesus Church, a member of the Adoration Society and the Sunderland Grange. In her later years, she worked as a nurses aid at the Northampton State Hospital. She was instrumental in starting the Sugarloaf Frostie in Sunderland.
She is survived by two sons, Alec and his wife Joyce and Peter and his wife Darlene, all of Sunderland; one daughter, Patricia Honeyman and her husband Larry of Southampton; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews.
Her sister Stella Cybulski predeceased her.
Funeral services will be Friday at 9 a.m. from the Wrisley Funeral Home followed by a Requiem Mass at 10 a.m. in Holy Name of Jesus Church, celebrated by Rev. Fr. Randolph Calvo pastor officiating.
Calling hours at the funeral home will be Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m.
