COLEBROOK, N.H. - After 72 wonderful years of family, farming and faithfulness to his loved ones and friends alike, Frederick "Fred" H. Leigh of Colebrook, was laid to eternal rest Sunday, Jan. 1, 2017. A simple man who enjoyed a simple life, Fred was a man of great pride and principle. Although his hands were rough and callused from a life's work he always embraced, they were soft and gentle to the touch of his precious family and cherished friends.
Be the first to share your memories or express your condolences in the Guest Book for Frederick H. "Fred" Leigh.
Born Oct. 14, 1944, in Stewartstown, to Robert E. and Laura A. (Frizzell) Leigh, Fred was a 1963 graduate of Colebrook Academy who later attended veterinary school for a period of time. After leaving Colebrook, he worked on multiple farms in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Following 23 years of service, and in order to spend more time with his ailing father, he retired early from Perstorp Compounds in Florence, Massachusetts.
Reliable as he was generous, Fred was not only a giver, always thinking of others before himself, and more than willing to help anyone in need without any expectation of recompense. Fred embodied integrity and lived by the mantra that a person is only as good as their word, making him a friend everyone loved to have, but more importantly, a family man that his parents, siblings, wife, children, nephews and grandchildren were fortunate to call their own.
For those that were blessed to know and love him and to those fortunate enough to meet him, they knew Fred's family and friends were of paramount importance. For his wife of 35 years and his two children, Kate and Tommy, there was nothing he would not do to ensure their safety and well-being. Whether bowling competitively, sitting on his front porch visiting, playing cards and drinking an evening coffee with friends, or in the driver's seat taking a leisurely drive around the block, to search for moose or to a vacation destination, Fred genuinely enjoyed the company of others, and they the same.
Fred is survived by those he lived for and loved deeply, his loving wife Patricia (Bogan) Leigh of Florence, Massachusetts; a son Thomas Leigh and wife Heather of Las Vegas, Nevada; a daughter Kathryn Dwyer and husband Sean of Gardner, Massachusetts; two grandchildren, Stephen and Brandan Murphy; and two sisters, Roberta "Bobbi" Ramsay and husband James of Concord, and Donna Beal and husband Pepper of Machias, Maine. He is preceded in death by a brother Rolland Leigh and a sister JoAnne Brown.
At Fred's specific request, there will be no public calling hours or services. Interment will occur at a later date in the Colebrook Village Cemetery.
