Easthampton - Janet K. Parent, 50, went home to the Lord on Monday, Aug. 6, 2012, a bright, summer day.

She was in her home surrounded by family and friends and left filled with great peace and beauty. Janet departed after a two year journey with cancer.

Janet was born in Kassel, Germany in May of 1962 while her family was stationed with the U.S. Army. While growing up, she traveled the world with her family which was serving in the U.S. Diplomatic Corps. She attended Mount Holyoke College, class of 1984 and went on to be an elementary teacher for a number of years at various local public and private schools.

In May of 1993, she married Alleyn (Al) T. Parent, Jr. Upon the birth of her first daughter, Janet embarked on her adventure as a homeschooling mother. This was one of her life's passions which she carried out with great creativity and dedication.

She was a member of College Church of Northampton where she actively participated in various Christian education roles and other church ministries.

Janet will be deeply missed by her husband, Alleyn, their three children Allysen, Noah and Beatrice and her mother, Lois S. Kennedy, all of Easthampton; her sister, Patricia K. Slack and her family of Seattle, Wash.; her sister Christine K. Schmidt and her family of Belchertown, as well as so many other brothers and sisters in Christ from around the area and the world. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Aug. 25, 10 a.m. at The College Church, Northampton. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to College Church, 58 Pomeroy Terrace, Northampton, MA 01060 or Western Massachusetts Homeschoolers, P.O. Box 463, Monson, MA 01057; each are planning a special project in memory of Janet.
