KNOXVILLE, Tenn. - Jean Mary (Boruchowski) Atkinson, 93, formerly of Briggs Street, Easthampton, died at her residence in Knoxville, Tenn. surrounded by her loving family on Friday, June 14, 2013.
Jean was born in Southbridge on Aug. 7, 1919 and was the daughter of the late Felix and Lottie (Nierychlewski) Boruchowski. At six years old, she moved to Easthampton were she was educated at the former Sacred Heart of Jesus School and was a graduate of Easthampton High School with the class of 1937. She then received her business degree from the former Northampton Commercial College.
Jean was a longtime real estate agent, having worked for a number of agencies before opening her own, called Atkinson Realty in Easthampton. She operated it until her retirement in 1990. Jean was well known in the restaurant industry as well; for thirty years she could be found either waitressing or working as a hostess at the former Log Cabin Restaurant in Holyoke, owned by the Williams family.
Jean was a devoted and loving mother and also very active communicant of the former Sacred Heart of Jesus Parish. She was a member of the Holy Rosary Sodality, the Sacred Heart School PTA committee, and the polish festival committee.
She is survived by her two daughters, Barbara Brown and her husband James, and Carol Kelley; one son, Joseph Santaniello of Knoxville, Tenn.; two grandchildren, many great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Jean was predeceased by her son, Donald Frank Santaniello Jr.; her husband, George W. Atkinson; a brother, Thaddeus Adam Boruchowski; a sister, Harriett Slabinski; and her former husband, Donald Frank Santaniello Sr.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held Saturday at the Graham Funeral Home at 18 Adams St., Easthampton, which has been entrusted with providing for Jean's care and services, at 9:15 a.m. followed by a Mass at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of the Valley Parish, 33 Adams St., Easthampton. Calling Hours will be at the funeral home on Friday evening from 6 to 8 p.m.
