CHESTER, VA – Joan Frost Carter, 79, most recently of Chester, Va., passed away on May 3, 2018 in Fairfax, Va. A native of Northampton, Mass., she is survived by her daughter, Bethany Carter Bower, and son-inlaw, Brad Bower, of Alexandria, Va.; her siblings, David Frost (Tieton,Wash.), Richard Frost (Arvada, Colo.), Nancy Conant (Greenfield, Mass.), Linda Lenkowski (Florence, Mass.), and Mary Judge (Brookville, Md.) her sister in law Virginia Allis (Whately, Mass) and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her loving husband Walter E. Carter, a daughter, Donna Marie Carter, her parents Roy Frost and Catherine Carroll Frost. Born in Florence, Mass., Joan graduated from Northampton High School and worked as an administrative assistant in the Northampton school system for many years and then King and Cushman Insurance, before moving with her husband to Poughkeepsie, N.Y. before settling in Chester, Va. Family was everything to Joan and Walt who did their best to attend every family event. Joan earned an Associate's Degree from John Tyler Community College, Chester, Va. Joan also was active with St. John's Episcopal Church in Chester, Va, serving on the Vestry, Community Outreach, Choir and Altar Guild. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, June 2nd at 10:00 a.m. at St. John's Episcopal Church, 48 Elm Street, Northampton, Mass. In lieu of flowers donations can be made in memory of Joan Frost Carter to the Food Bank of Western Massachusetts, P.O. Box 160, Hatfield, MA 01038, or to the Massachusetts/New Hampshire Chapter at 309 Waverly Oak Road, Waltham, MA 02452,
