HADLEY – John F. Koloski, 87, of Hadley, passed away Sunday at Charlene Manor in Greenfield.

He was born Nov. 17, 1925, in Hadley to the late John S. and Katherine (Pastuszak) Koloski.
He was educated in Hadley schools and was a graduate of Hopkins Academy, class of 1944.
When his brothers went to war, John stayed behind to tend to the family farm, where he lived all his life.
In 1950 John married Phyllis Pash. They resided in Hadley and enjoyed 59 years of married life. He ran the farm, growing asparagus, onions, Indian corn, tobacco and various other vegetables.
John was a volunteer fireman and the first selectman for the town of Hadley. He was the co-chairman of the parade committee for the 300th Anniversary of Hadley and was the grand marshall for the 350th parade.
John worked for the University of Massachusetts, Amherst, at the physical plant before retiring. As the family patriarch, Phyllis and John hosted the annual Christmas Eve family gatherings for 50 years with over 60 relatives.
John is survived by his loving nieces and nephews, Barbara Mitchell of Amherst, Richard Koloski of Ft. Myers, Fla., Patricia Wagner of Amherst, David Koloski of Old Saybrook, Conn., Jane Larsen of Somerset, Joan Betters of Charleston, Joyce Keegan of Paxton, Steven Koloski of Easthampton and Susan Wilkes-Furlano of Canaan, N.Y.; and several grand and great nieces and nephews.
John is predeceased by his wife, Phyllis; his siblings, Frank, Chester, Veronica Mitchell and Jennie Wilkes; and his nephew, Gerald Koloski.
The funeral will be Saturday at 9:30 a.m. from the Drozdal Funeral Home, Northampton, with a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m. in Most Holy Redeemer Church, Hadley. Burial to follow in Holy Rosary Cemetery. Calling hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
