EASTHAMPTON – Joseph (Jay) Casella of Brattleboro, Vermont, formerly of Easthampton, passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, 2018 after a long illness of COPD.

Jay is survived by sons James and Jason and daughters Jessie and Beth. He is also remembered by his ex-wife and caregiver Dawn.

Jay was born in Pittsfield on Feb. 3, 1946, to parents James and Elizabeth. He was the youngest of four children David, Ralph, and Judy. Jay proudly served in the United States Marine Corps and received the Rifle Marksmanship Badge. After his honorable discharge, Jay worked as a driver for Barrows Oil Company, a variety of positions at C&S Wholesale Grocers, and a machine operator at Georgia Pacific.

Jay enjoyed traveling and taking road trips. He was a fan of detective and history stories and television shows. His daughters and friends remember his enthusiasm for board games. Italian cooking was another hobby of Jay's and he liked to cook for his family and friends.

Jay's loved ones would like to thank the staff at Pine Heights at Brattleboro Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation and Bayada Hospice for their tireless efforts to make Jay comfortable in his last weeks.

Jay will be interred at Brookside Cemetery in Easthampton at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to Bayada Hospice in Brattleboro.
