FLORENCE - Kathryn (Kurtz) Hamelin, 71, of Florence, passed away peacefully Wednesday, June 11, 2014, at the home of her brother-in-law and sister-in-law Robert and Margaret Hamelin of Easthampton.

She was born May 7, 1943, in Northampton, the daughter of Christine (Vachula) Kurtz and the late Edmund M. Kurtz. Kathryn attended Northampton schools.
She was predeceased by her husband Kenneth Hamelin who passed in February 2013.
She was employed at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Leeds, for 20 years before she retired in 1996. She then spent many gratifying years in Florida, with her husband where she loved the beach and the warm weather. They later relocated back to Florence.
Kathryn enjoyed bowling, reading, gardening and volunteering, as well as her pets.
Kathryn leaves her mother of Leeds, her son Kevin Hamelin of Chicopee, and her daughter Karen Voorwinden, her son-in-law William Voorwinden, and her beloved granddaughter Jadyn Voorwinden all of California; her brother Edmund J. Kurtz of Delaware; and her sister Deborah Jones of Leominister.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, June 21, at 10 a.m. in Center Cemetery, Westhampton.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Kathryn's memory may be given to Highland Valley Elder Services, 320 Riverside Drive, Florence, MA 01062, or to the VNA and Hospice of Cooley Dickinson Hospital, 168 Industrial Drive, Northampton, MA 01060.
