SOUTH HADLEY - Dr. Kenneth L. Brown passed peacefully Thursday, Feb. 14, 2013, at home with his beloved wife by his side.

Born in Camp Hill, Pa., son of the late Harold D. and Hazel M. Brown.

Kenneth is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley (Skelton) Brown, their three children, Michael Brown and wife Melissa, Dean Brown and his wife Anne and Robyn Kaczowka and her husband Derek. Kenneth also leaves a sister Lois Hadd, a brother Donald Brown and six grandchildren, Kenneth, Matthew, Trevor, Colton, Camryn and Brianna.

A longtime employee at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, Ken retired from the Department of Communications, first in 1999, and then again in 2009.

A devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amherst and more recently of Saint Peter's Lutheran Church in Holyoke, he was actively involved in many facets of parish life including religious education, worship assistant, stewardship and church council.

Ken especially enjoyed spending time with his wife, children and extended family who were the love and joy of his life.

The Funeral for Ken will be Monday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. from the Ryder Funeral Home, 33 Lamb St., South Hadley, followed by a funeral service in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Ave., Holyoke, at 11 a.m. Committal services with military honors will follow in Evergreen Cemetery, South Hadley. Calling hours for Ken will be on Sunday, Feb. 17, from 2 to 5 p.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Ken's memory may be made to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, 34 Jarvis Ave., Holyoke, MA 01040 or to Loomis Communities, c/o Carol Constant, 246 North Main St., South Hadley, MA 01075.
