SOUTHAMPTON - Louise E. (Klopfenstein) Canning, 81, died Feb. 4, 2013, at Baystate Medical Center.

She was born Sept. 7, 1931, in Southampton, the daughter of Peter and Louise (Goepfert) Klopfenstein.
Louise lived in Southampton her whole life. She attended Sheldon Academy in Southampton. She graduated from Easthampton High School and then the Holyoke Hospital School of Nursing.
She married Robert J. Canning in 1952. She worked as a nurse at Holyoke Hospital until 1962 and then worked for Boxmakers in Westfield, retiring in 1983 to take care of her granddaughter, Jennifer, after the death of her daughter-in-law Laura (Frary) Canning.
Louise enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting and playing bingo at the Southampton and Easthampton Senior Centers.
Her parents and her husband predeceased her.
She is survived by her son Daniel Canning; granddaughter Jennifer Peloquin and her husband Robert; great-grandchildren, Roxanne, Michelle and Brandon; many cousins including, Sally Young, Helen "Sue" Slater and Joseph Slattery; friends, Pauline Symasko, Lorraine Lamoureux, Southampton and Easthampton bingo players; everyone at the Southampton Senior Center, and her cat, Munky.
A grave side service will be Thursday, Feb. 14, at 11 a.m. in Center Cemetery, Southampton. Calling hours will be Wednesday, Feb. 13, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton.
