EASTHAMPTON - Margaret Isabel Yoakum Betke (1923-2018) passed away peacefully on Aug. 1, at the Soldier's Home in Holyoke.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Clarence Stone Yoakum, Vice-President of the University of Michigan, and Louise Storey Yoakum, her husband, and her daughter, Dr. Elizabeth Stone Betke. She is survived by two beloved daughters, Nancy and Barbara, in addition to adoring sons-in-laws, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Margaret grew up in Ann Arbor, Michigan. She attended National Cathedral School in Washington, D.C., the University of Texas in Austin, and joined the U.S. Navy in 1944. She served as a Hospital Corpsman, stationed at the Brooklyn Navy Yard.

She and her husband raised their family in Yonkers, New York, and moved to Easthampton after retiring from the White Plains MVB.

Margaret was quiet, kind, and peaceable, simply a wonderful woman. She had a gift for giving.

Important to her were her many faith filled years of service at Christ Lutheran Church in Yonkers and St. Peter's Lutheran Church in Holyoke. Singing in the choir was her particular joy.

For over 20 years, she delighted in her wonderful crowd of friends at the Lathrop Community in Easthampton, joining in many of the activities offered. She is mourned by all fortunate to have known her.
