NORTHAMPTON - Mary E. O'Neill, 85, of Fort Hill Terrace, passed away peacefully Wednesday, Oct. 31, 2012, at the Cooley Dickinson Hospital with her trusted friend David by her side.

Born Dec. 13, 1926, in Northampton, she was the daughter of the late Raymond and Bridget (Clifford) O'Neill.
She was a lifelong resident of Northampton. Mary was educated in Northampton schools and was a graduate of the former St. Michael's High School, class of 1944.
She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts in Amherst in June of 1948. She went on to graduate from nursing school. Mary continued her education and received her Masters of Art degree from Smith College in 1953. She received her certificate to teach elementary school from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in 1957.
Mary was employed as a school teacher from 1958 until her retirement in 1992. She enjoyed playing bridge, golfing and traveling.
She is survived by several nieces and nephews and good friends David and Arline.
She was predeceased by her brother Raymond O'Neill, Jr.
Mary's funeral will be Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home, followed by a Liturgy of Christian burial in Blessed Sacrament Church, 354 Elm St., Northampton, at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling hours will precede the funeral Tuesday from 9 to 10:30 a.m.
