SOUTHAMPTON - Maxine (Frost) Hendrick, 88, of Southampton, died Thursday, Oct. 10, 2013.
The Guest Book is expired.
The daughter of Raymond and Violet Frost, she was born and raised in Cooper, Maine. She attended schools there and subsequently moved to Hartford, Conn., where she was employed by the Aetna Life Insurance Company. In 1947 she married Theodore Hendrick and moved to Southampton.
Maxine served as an Edwards Library trustee and was an active member of the Southampton Women's Club. She belonged to the First Congregational Church and served enthusiastically on many committees. Gardening was a longtime passion, and many of her flowers were pressed, combined with wild blooms, and arranged in framed pictures, which she and several of her talented friends created as fundraisers for the annual church fair. Along with Theodore, she was an active member of the Southampton Historical Society and often worked as a volunteer at its Clark-Chapman Museum.
She worked at the polls during town elections, and as a bookkeeper at both the former O'Leary Company of Southampton and the Wright Homestead in Easthampton.
Flower gardens brightened the outside of her home, and she was a great homemaker indoors as well. She especially loved caring for her grandchildren at every opportunity.
Maxine was predeceased by her brother Lyle and her sister Margie, both of Maine.
She is survived by her husband Theodore Hendrick, along with their son Darrell Hendrick and his wife Lisa Sawyer of Easthampton, and daughter Paula Hendrick and her partner Carol Harley of Leicester. She also leaves two grandchildren, Cori Hendrick Davis and her husband Greg of Gloucester, and Marshall Hendrick of Easthampton and Montgomery. She also leaves a brother Vance Frost and his wife Elsie of Hingham.
The family wishes to thank the caring staff at Overlook Northampton.
A memorial service will be held at the Southampton Congregational Church Saturday, Oct. 19, at 11 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations in Maxine's memory may be made to the Memorial Fund at the church.
