FLORENCE - Nancy K. Shutt of Florence, formerly of Watertown, died Feb. 5, 2013. She was the loving mother of Matthew T. Shutt and Micaela R. Shutt of Florence. She was the beloved daughter of the late Thomas R. and Jane P. (Bloomer) Shutt, also, the devoted sister of Mary Jane Gangi and her husband Bob of Framingham, Patricia Shutt Gangi and her husband Joe of Millis and Jeanine S. Brown and her husband Jim of Watertown. She was also loved by nieces, nephews, grandnieces and a grandnephew.

She grew up in Watertown, graduated from Saint Patrick High School in Watertown, and received her bachelor's degree from the University of Massachusetts in Boston. Ms. Shutt would later earn her master's degree from UMass Amherst. She was an education major with a primary focus on special needs education.
For the past 36 years, she has lived in Western Massachusetts, primarily in the Florence area of Northampton. She was a highly dedicated and devoted teacher in special needs. Ms. Shutt taught for 20 years in the Gateway Regional School system in Huntington, and more recently at the Center School in Holyoke.
She was a member of Friends in Adoption, Massachusetts Teachers Association and the Hampshire Chorale Society. She also enjoyed contra dancing and swimming. In addition, she was an accomplished seamstress, making clothes for family and friends, costumes for Gateway and clothes for the porcelain dolls that she also made.
Ms. Shutt died on Tuesday, Feb. 5, 2013, in the Leonard Morse Hospital, Natick, as a result of cancer.
Funeral from the MacDonald, Rockwell & MacDonald Funeral Home, at 270 Main St., Rt. 20, Watertown, on Fri. at 9:30 a.m. followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 a.m. in the Church of St. Jude, 147 Main St., Waltham. Interment Ridgelawn Cemetery. Calling hours will be held Thursday from 4 to 8 p.m. Relatives and friends kindly invited. A memorial service in the Northampton area will be announced in the near future.
