HAYMARKET, Va.- Owen Patrick Clewes, 76, of Haymarket, died July 10, 2012, at home surrounded by his family.
He was born May 4, 1936, in Framingham, Mass., to the late Ernest and Florence Clewes.
Owen had a 29 year naval career, from 1954 to 1983.
Owen is survived by his wife of 31 years, Patricia H Clewes; three children and their spouses, Kevin (Marcy) Clewes of West Hartford, Conn., Laura (Jeff) Hebbard of Raleigh, N.C., David (Jen) Clewes of Boynton Beach, Fla.; two step children, Kelly (Craig) Moreland of Simpsonville, S.C. and Richard Bodine of Sterling, Va.; four siblings, Sylvia (Robert) Poplawski of Nokesville, Va., Kay (Bill) Carrier of Lake Suzy, Fla., Scott (Mary) Gay of West Palm Beach, Fla. and James Clewes; seven grandchildren, David, Jason and Ethan Clewes, Kyle Hebbard, Rachel Thackston, Katelyn and Melissa Moreland; and great-grandchildren, Jessica and Joshua Thackston.
A memorial service will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Owen's name to the Wounded Warrior Project: www.woundedwarriorproject.org.
