WESTFIELD - Phyllis Christine (Smith) Hahn, 95, formerly of Dox Road, died Friday, Sept. 27, 2013.
She passed away surrounded by family and friends, at her grandson Ron's home in Southampton. Phyllis was born on Dec. 1, 1917, in Springfield, the daughter of the late Alfred G. and Christine (Lange) Smith.
She was preceded in death by husband Frank Jacob Hahn in 1994, son William F. Hahn in 2005, and sister Beatrice (Smith) Koerner in 2013. She is survived by daughter-in-law Marilyn (Kleiber) Hahn, Valparaiso, Ind.; daughter, Christine (Hahn) Bashista (Stephen), Southampton; son, Philip E. Hahn (Laurel Paul), Valparaiso, Ind.; sister Shirley (Smith) Brandt, Belfast, Maine; and brother-in-law Edmund Czajkowski, West Palm Beach, Fla.
Grandchildren include Karla Hahn Strieb (Saul); Douglas Hahn (Mari Johnson); Gregory Hahn (Paula Harrell); Michael Bashista; Ron Bashista (Doreen Labrie); Marianne Bashista (Shari Pouliot); Theresa Hahn; Heather Hahn Sullivan (Lon); and Carolyn Hahn.
She leaves behind seven great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and their children.
Phyllis and Frank had a large garden for many years. She canned and froze the vegetables they grew, and they shared the harvest with family and friends.
She was a co-leader of local 4H groups, participated in adult education classes and was skilled in many areas, including hooking and braiding rugs, quilting, sewing, tailoring, knitting and crocheting. She was a proud alumnus of Bay Path College.
Visitation will be at Mitchell Funeral Home, 15 Park St., Easthampton, on Wednesday, Oct. 2 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. with the service at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at the Center Cemetery in Southampton.
