WORTHINGTON - Robert ""Bob"" Finch Miller of Worthington, died suddenly Jan. 28, 2013, of a heart attack.
The Guest Book is expired.
Born July 19, 1944, in Washington D.C., Bob was a well-known and loved transplant from New York to the Hilltowns of Western Massachusetts, moving to Worthington with his wife, Carol Wrobleski, in 1995.
As a child, Bob roamed the world with his foreign-service family as they moved from France to Italy to India to Somalia to Kenya, cementing a lifelong love of travel.
He attended the Woodstock School in Mussoori, India, then graduated from Amherst College in 1966. After several years teaching at the Bement School in Deerfield, Bob returned to his native Washington D.C., where his first son Ben was born. Later Bob launched a career in New York that combined public relations and marketing consulting with journalism, fusing his passions for travel and writing.
The author of several books, Bob has written travel, lifestyle, ""how-to"" and op-ed pieces for many well-known publications. Most recently, Bob was editorial director for the New York public relations firm, M. Silver Associates.
Bob embraced life in the Hilltowns and formed deep roots. He was a frequent habitué of the Cummington Creamery and could be spotted there daily for coffee and a bit of Hilltown news. Commitment to his new community, led to service on the boards of The Miniature Theatre of Chester, numerous years as president of the Hilltown Community Development Corporation and a stint reporting on the Hilltowns for the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
Bob dove wholeheartedly into all his children's activities and interests from little league to photography to music, he particularly relished his role as ""ballet dad"" and was a genial presence backstage at his children's performances with the Pioneer Valley Ballet.
Bob will be remembered equally for his warm humor and keen wit, profound gratitude for family and friends, zest for summer retreats to Grand Manan Island and Petit Manan in Maine, affable exasperation with the everyday chaos of life and outrage at the world's injustices.
He will be immensely miss by his wife Carol; children, Emma, Rose and Timmy of Worthington; his son Benjamin Miller; daughter-in-law Alisa; and grandchildren, Megan, Jack and Lindsay of Potomac Falls, Va.; his sisters, Jane Powell of Loughborough, England, Ann Riggan of Philadelphia, Pa., and Maria Miller of Cornwall-on-Hudson, N.Y.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Emma & Timmy Fund, c/o Florence Savings Bank, One Main St., Williamsburg, MA 01098.
A celebration of Bob's life will be held in May.
