GREAT BARRINGTON - Silvio Paul Macchi Sr., 87, of 50 Reed St., Great Barrington, died Monday, Oct. 8, 2012, at Fairview Hospital.

He was born Aug. 26, 1925, in Lee, son of John Macchi and Anna Zanella Macchi.
He attended Lee schools, graduating from Lee High in 1944. He earned an Associate's Degree in accounting from Berkshire Business College. During high school he worked as a sandblaster for Lee Marble Quarry and Nick's Restaurant in Lee.
He was a Staff Sargeant with the U.S. Army during the Korean War stationed at Fort Hood and Fort Ustus. He worked for Hurlburt Paper Mill in 1950 in the traffic office as manager, then joined Great Barrington Postal service as a letter carrier and worked there for 22 years before retiring in 1989.
He was a communicant of St. Peter's Church. Silvio enjoyed Nascar, hunting, playing cards and attending Lebanon Valley Speedway. He was a member of Cove Bowling League and Greenock Country Club. His favorite tool was duct tape because it could fix anything.
Silvio leaves his wife, the former Theresa A. Kot, whom he married on Nov. 22, 1952 in St. Peter's Church; one son, Richard J. Macchi of Las Vegas, Nev.; three daughters, Rosemary A. Baumann of Great Barrington, Kathryn A. Macchi of Hatfield and Elizabeth A. Macchi of Ashley Falls; three brothers, John Macchi of Pittsfield, George Macchi of N.Y. and Joseph Macchi of Lee; one sister, Alice Buffis, of Lee; six grandchildren, Samantha, Crystal, John, Rachael, Brittany and Lauren; and five great-grandchildren.
Silvio was predeceased by his son Silvio Jr. in 2002 and two sisters, Louisa and Clara.
Funeral services for Silvio will be held on Friday, Oct. 12 at 10 a.m. with a Liturgy of Christian Burial at St. Peter's Church with the Reverend William P. Murphy pastor officiating. Burial will follow in St. Peter's Cemetery. Family will receive friends on Thursday, Oct. 11 from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Birches-Roy Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy in Silvio's memory may be made to Fairview Hospital in care of the Birches-Roy Funeral Home, 33 South St., Great Barrington, MA 01230.
