WILLIAMSBURG - Teresa Byrne Everett, 63, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family Dec. 9, 2017.
Terry was born Dec. 22, 1953, the daughter of Mildred (Warner) and the late Robert Byrne.
She grew up in Sherborn. She spent many summers at the Warner family farm in Sunderland, where she fell in love with farm life. Terry discovered her passion for dairy farming while a student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst.
At UMass she met Alan Everett and knew from the start that she would marry him. It took him two years to figure it out, but they celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary in June.
After graduating, they lived for a time in Ontario before returning to the Northampton area.
Terry broke new ground when she was hired as the first female farm manager at Smith Vocational and Agricultural High School. Some thought it was no job for a woman, but she soon won the respect and admiration of staff and students. Terry and Al established Hemenway Hill Farm in 1980 and raised their three daughters there.
She was a 4-H volunteer for 25 years and was well-respected in the agricultural community. Terry was a dedicated, meticulous farmer. Her strength and success made her a role model to young women interested in careers in agriculture. She was kind and generous to everyone she knew. Her daughters grew up knowing only encouragement, support, and unconditional love from her. In recent years, Terry loved sharing time on the farm with her grandchildren.
Terry's other titles over the years included ski patroller, ox teamster, horsewoman, Unitarian Universalist, mentor, caregiver, and friend. She loved to hike and climbed Mount Washington three times. She could always find peace on her daily walks in the woods with the dogs.
Terry will be deeply missed by her husband Alan Everett; her daughters, Faith Bisbee and her husband Donnie, Becky Everett and her partner Adam Kolek, and Emily Everett and her husband Henry Dallow; and her grandchildren, Carson and Brooke Bisbee. She also leaves her mother, Mildred Byrne; her siblings, Jeffrey Byrne and his wife Stella, and Linda Byrne; her brother-in-law Glen Everett and sister-in-law Robin Everett; and many beloved nieces, nephews and cousins.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her memorial 4-H scholarship fund. Checks payable to Massachusetts 4-H Dairy with Terry's name in the memo line can be sent to Scott Poitras, 95 Hollow Road, Brimfield, MA, 01010.
Calling hours are Friday, Dec. 15 from 5-7 p.m. at Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road in Northampton. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. at the First Congregational Church of Williamsburg, 4 North Main St.
