Northampton - Helen B. (Britt) Blanchard, 103, formerly of 283 Riverside Drive, passed away Friday Sept. 28 at the Calvin Coolidge Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born in Northampton Sept. 8, 1909, she was the daughter of the late Stephen and Nellie (Fitzgerald) Britt. Helen was educated in Northampton schools and was a 1927 graduate of Northampton High School where she was one of the first cheerleaders.
She worked at the switchboard and in the business office at Cooley Dickinson Hospital and later at the former Northampton State Hospital where she worked in the business office and as a buyer. Helen was a longtime Communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church. She enjoyed watching sports on TV and was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
She was very devoted to her family. Helen was predeceased by her husband Reginald J. Blanchard and her son Joseph R. Blanchard. She is survived by her daughter Kathleen O'Neil and her husband Jack of Florence, her daughter-in-law Marilyn Blanchard of Sandwich, her four grandchildren Jeffery and Jill Blanchard, Peggy O'Neil Braica and Jack O'Neil, her great-grandson Brenden O'Neil and several nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the Elm nursing staff at Calvin Coolidge for the years of wonderful care they provided to Helen.
Her Funeral will be Thursday morning 10:30 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Blessed Sacrament Church at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery. Calling Hours will precede the Funeral from 9-10:30 a.m. Donations in Helen's memory may be made to the , 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to the Calvin Coolidge Residents' Fund, 548 Elm St., Northampton, MA 01060.
