SOUTH HADLEY - Barbara L. (Crowther) Holland, 72 of Hernando, Fla., and Plymouth, Mass., was surrounded by loved ones as she found peace Friday, Jan. 24, 2014, at her daughter's home.
Born in Northampton Feb. 28, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Frank and Lena Crowther. Barbara was also predeceased by her loving step-mother Bernice (Germaine) Crowther. She was educated in Northampton schools and graduated Northampton High School in 1959. Barbara worked for several years as a teacher's aide in the Springfield school system.
She lived in Springfield for 45 years before spending her winters in Florida and summers in Plymouth. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary in Plymouth and the VFW Auxiliary in Hernando. She was an avid reader and a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother.
She is survived by her husband William J. Holland, her daughter and son-in-law Francine and Karol Kapinos of South Hadley, her son and daughter-in-law Bruce and Kathleen Bonneau of Monson, her three brothers Gilbert Crowther of Florida, Frank Crowther of Maryland, and Jeffrey Crowther of Northampton, her two sisters Cynthia Halsey of Bernardston, and Janice Hoffman of Granby, her five grandchildren, Lynn Legiadre, Courtney Kapinos, Karl Kapinos, Madison and Rylee Bonneau, and her great granddaughter Londyn. A graveside service for Barbara will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Cemetery in Northampton where she will be reunited with her late son Richard Bonneau. Calling hours will precede the service Tuesday from 10 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home, 783 Bridge Road, Northampton. Donations in Barbara's memory may be made to Hospice Life Care, 113 Hampden St., Holyoke, MA 01040.
