SOUTH DEERFIELD - William H. Stetson died peacefully Tuesday, Jan. 28, 2014, at home.

The son of Maurice Stetson of Greenfield, and Bernice McGuffin of Vivian, La., Bill was born Sept. 27, 1938, in Middletown, Ohio, and spent his childhood in Kalamazoo, Mich.
He graduated from Holyoke High School, Holyoke Community College, Amherst College and the School of Library Science at the State University of New York in Albany.
Before becoming a librarian, Bill owned a franchise for Pepperidge Farm Bread and was a textbook manager at several book stores, Columbia Teachers College in New York City, Mount Holyoke College, and the University of Massachusetts Amherst. He served as a reference librarian at Springfield College and the law library at the Massachusetts Trial Court in Springfield. He retired in 2007.
He is survived by his wife Janet; son and daughter-in-law Gabe and Zinny Stetson; grandson Henry; sister Anne Clower; and nephews Cam and Andy Clower and their families.
The Ryder Funeral Home in South Hadley is in charge of arrangements.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be held at a later date.
