FLORENCE - Lawrence R. McPhee, of Spring Grove Avenue, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 9, 2014, on his 81st birthday, surrounded by his family.

Lawrence was born March 9, 1933, in Woodland (Baileyville), Maine, but grew up in Calais, Maine, and was the son of Daniel J. and Nora D. (Peterson) McPhee.
Lawrence graduated from Washington State Teachers College, and later from the University of Maine, with a bachelor's degree in electrical engineering. He then attended Lowell Technical Institute and Northeastern University, receiving a Master of Business Administration from American International College in Springfield.
At age 21 Lawrence entered the U.S. Army, stationed in Germany. Once Lawrence was honorably discharged, he worked as a microwave engineer for Raytheon, Missile Systems Division in Bedford. He then worked nearly 30 years for Kollmorgen Corporation in Northampton, where he held a variety of engineering and management positions.
In Lawrence's free time, he played golf, earning many awards recognizing him for his skill, obtaining two hole-in-ones during his golf career. He became a member at both Hickory Ridge Country Club in Amherst, and Northampton Country Club in Northampton.
Lawrence leaves behind a loving wife Lillian E. (Finizio) McPhee of Florence, and four daughters, Diane McPhee of Huntington Beach, Calif., with her two children, Erin and Renee LaMontagne; Kathryn Murphy of Southampton, wife of William Murphy with their two children, Jocelyn and Nora; Lauren Lamica of Southampton, and husband Paul Lamica with their daughter Emily; and Elizabeth Coles of Huntington Beach, Calif., with her husband Douglas Coles.
Calling hours will be held at the Ahearn Funeral Home Friday from 10 a.m. until the time of the service at 12 p.m.
