NORTHAMPTON - Alice A. Carlozzi, 83, of 48 Firethorn Lane, at the Lathrop Community in Northampton, passed away peacefully in her home Thursday, April 10, 2014.

Alice was born Nov. 29, 1930, in Columbus, Ohio, to F. Dewey and Mary (Case) Amner. She graduated high school in Kent, Ohio.
Alice married her high school sweetheart Carl Carlozzi in September of 1951, who predeceased her in December 2013. She and Carl had three children and in 1965, the family moved to Amherst.
Alice earned a bachelor's degree in 1969 and a master's degree in political science in 1973 at the University of Massachusetts Amherst.
Alice spent many years as a dedicated community volunteer including 15 years as member of the Finance Committee for the Town of Amherst including several when she served as chair. In 2008, Alice and Carl moved from their home in Amherst to the Lathrop Community in Northampton, where she also served as a member of the board of directors, including past treasurer.
Alice was considered by her many colleagues and friends to be a voice of reason with an acutely intellectual mind and exemplified the true meaning of teamwork and collaboration.
Alice is survived by her sister Lucy Sherrill of Williamstown. She also leaves her son Peter and his wife Norma of San Mateo, Calif.; her daughter Gina Wall and her husband Michael Wall of Florence; her daughter Sara of Rio Rancho, N.M.; six grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two step-grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild.
A celebration of Alice's life will be held Saturday, April 19, at 10 a.m. at the Meeting House in the Lathrop Community, One Shallowbrook Drive, Northampton.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Kestrel Land Trust, P.O. Box 1016, Amherst, MA 01004.
