HATFIELD - Edward Lyons, 82, of Pantry Road, died Sunday, April 13, 2014, at the Soldiers Home in Holyoke.

Born Sept. 3, 1931, in Fall River, he was the son of Dennis and Mary (Botelho) Lyons. After graduating school, he joined the Army as military police and served in Germany during the Korean War from 1949 to 1953.
In 1957, he married Pauline Parent of New Bedford. May 17, 1959, he graduated from Swain School of Design in New Bedford. Upon graduation, he worked as an illustrator for Pratt and Whitney in Hartford, Conn., for 10 years. In 1969, he and Pauline purchased the Regency Gift Shop in Chatham, Cape Cod. Ed was a prolific and fine artist. From his gift shop, Ed sold dozens of oil and tempera paintings, and hundreds of detailed, mounted ship plaque drawings. His work is enjoyed throughout the world.
Ed was an avid reader and expert in art history as well as the Civil War. In 2002, he and Pauline moved to Hatfield, to be near family, where he continued painting and enjoyed working in his yard.
Ed leaves his wife and companion of 56 years, Pauline, his beloved daughter Suzanne and her husband Daniel of Hatfield, and his four grandchildren, Melody of Hatfield, Daniel of Los Angeles, Nathan of Rochester, N.Y., and Jacob of Hatfield. He also leaves three wonderful great-grandchildren, Sophia, Leah and Max, his sister Dolores and her husband Joe Reid of South Hadley, and a nephew and nieces.
Edward will be laid to rest Tuesday, April 22, at 1 p.m. at the Massachusetts Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Agawam, with military honors. The Williamsburg Funeral Home was entrusted with his cremation.
