EASTHAMPTON - David A. Havlir, Sr., 76, died peacefully Wednesday, April 16, 2014, at home surrounded by his loving family.

Born June 2, 1937, he was the youngest son of the late Reverend Michael and Anna (Sabo) Havlir.

David attended Hatfield schools and was a 1955 graduate of Smith Academy. He served in the U.S. Army and was stationed in Virginia.

David worked in the construction field for many years and most recently as an inspector of bridges for the Massachusetts Turnpike Authority retiring in 2002.

David's love of cars began early and followed him throughout his life. He was a member of the Model A Club, TY-RODS, and often participated in local cruise nights. He also enjoyed NASCAR, gardening and was a charter member of the O.F.C.

David is survived by his wife of 52 years, Kathleen (Weisinger) Havlir; son David, Jr., and Celeste Halford of Ashland, Va.; daughter Carol and Donald Vollinger of Hatfield; daughter Pamela and Jim Smiarowski also of Hatfield; and grandchildren Lauren, Alex, Ryan and Jayson. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He was predeceased by brothers Daniel and Charlie.

The family will receive friends Monday, April 21, from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Ahearn Funeral Home.

A Christian burial service will be held Tuesday, April 22, at 10 a.m. at First Lutheran Church, 1810 Northampton St., Holyoke. Burial will follow immediately at Spring Grove Cemetery, Florence.
