HATFIELD- Joan "Joni" B. (Pierce) Szawlowski, 77, of Hatfield passed away Wednesday April 23, 2014.
The Guest Book is expired.
She was born in Montague February 20, 1937 to the late Arnold & Elizabeth (Johnson) Pierce. A graduate of Turners Falls High School, Joni went on to become a registered Nurse working at Cooley Dickinson Hospital for many years. Leaving to raise a family, Joni continued working on the family potato farm, Szawlowski Farms. Joni was an outgoing person who loved conversation with anybody she could find. In her later years you could always find her at Big Y, where a lot of people probably thought she worked. There wasn't anyone she didn't talk to and have laughing in no time. She was such a loving, caring person and we'll miss her so much.
Joni is survived by her husband of 53 years, Chester Szawlowski Jr., along with her two daughters; Cheryl and her husband Bob Slattery of Easthampton, and Pamela and her husband Richard Ross of Hatfield as well as four grandsons; Erik, Matthew and Sean Lowney of Hatfield and Patrick of Colorado as well as many nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, Gerald Pierce in 1984.
There are no calling hours and all services will be private. Donations in Joni's memory may be made to the Cancer Connection, 41 Locust St, Northampton, MA 01060. The Czelusniak Funeral Home of Northampton has been entrusted with arrangements.
