FLORENCE - Richard A. "Rick" Devine, 60, of Florence, passed away peacefully Thursday, June 5, 2014, surrounded by his loving family.

Rick was born Sept. 18, 1953, in Northampton.

He is survived by his mother Joyce E. Devine of Northampton, and his uncle Phillip Valley of Manchester New Hampshire. He leaves his wife of 39 years Linda (Frenier) Devine; his son Jonathan Devine of Rhode Island; daughter and future son-in-law Lisa Devine and Steven Coughlin both of Florence; his sister Jody Harris of Hadley, and her three children, Erica, Zachary and Cienna; his sister Lori Nelson and brother Jeremy Devine both of Worcester; his mother-in-law Eleanor Frenier of Florence; several brothers and sisters-in-law; and many nieces and nephews.

Rick was a 1972 graduate of Northampton High School, he became a master electrician after attending Westfield Vocational Technical school. He was employed as an electrician at Easthampton Electrical Service for 20 years. He recently retired as the building superintendent from Dow Jones, Inc., in Chicopee, where he was employed for 20 years.

Rick was a loving husband to his wife, a proud and devoted father to his two children and always put his family first. He was a loving brother, son, uncle, nephew and friend. Ricks sense of humor and light-hearted nature would always bring laughter and comfort to the many lives he has touched. He was an avid reader and had a hunger for knowledge. Rick enjoyed his vacations to St. Maarten with his wife and their best friends. Rick was a passionate and talented man whose interests included cooking, playing the guitar, sketching and traveling. He was an avid New England Patriots fan, albeit superstitious. Rick's strength, love, compassion and friendship will be missed dearly but never forgotten.

Rick's funeral will be Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the Ahearn Funeral Home followed by a Liturgy of Christian Burial in the Annunciation Chapel of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Parish at 10 a.m. Burial will be private. Calling hours are Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The Devine family has requested that donations in his memory may be made to Smith Vocational Technical School, 80 Locust St., Northampton, MA 01060.
