NORTHFIELD - William "Bill" Bartos, 48, of Northfield, died on Monday, June 2, 2014, related to a previous head injury.
The Guest Book is expired.
He was born March 10, 1966, in Northampton, the son of Robert Bartos, Sr., and Sandra (Ormond) Bartos. He was a graduate of the Franklin County Technical School class of 1984.
Bill loved God and his family – he was a family man. He had a funny sense of humor that left a lasting impression. Bill was fun loving, thoughtful, sensitive, sympathetic, compassionate, very friendly and outgoing. He was very giving of himself to anyone that asked for his help. He was also a very hard, conscientious worker who always believed in giving his all.
Bill was the most loving and patient father to his son and best friend, Colby, whom he would give all his time. As a father he was always teaching his son constant life lessons. Bill enjoyed spending time with his family and collecting mementos of family outings to preserve those treasured memories. He loved the outdoors. His hobbies included hunting deer, pheasant, turkeys, ducks and geese. Usually when he hunted deer it was on Mount Toby, which he often called "My Mountain". Other hobbies included fishing, bird watching and wildlife/nature photography with his son. He enjoyed his candy-apple red 1967 Nova SS classic car (which is not for sale). He was a very skilled and talented landscaper creating beautiful gardens – this often drew the attention of friends and passer-byes who would stop to compliment him on the beauty he had created. Kids were drawn to his playful nature because he was a kid-at-heart.
On Oct. 8, 1988, Bill married his childhood sweetheart, the former Darlene LaMagdelaine, in Moores Corner Church, which he was a member of.
Besides his wife Darlene of 25 years and son Colby, he leaves his father Robert Bartos, Sr., and step-mother Patricia Bartos of Sunderland; a brother Robert Bartos, Jr., of Shutesbury; two sisters, Suzanne Davidson of Newton, New Hampshire, and Debra DeLisle of Barrington, New Hampshire; brothers-in-law Eric LaMagdelaine of Sunderland, Kevin LaMagdelaine and Richard LaMagdelaine, Jr., both of Greenfield; several nieces and nephews; as well as aunts and uncles.
Bill was employed at the University of Massachusetts Amherst for 23 years. He was a supervisor of janitors, the sole trainer running the Physical Plant Custodial Training Institute, and a Continuous Quality Improvement Trainer, one of only six trainers for the entire campus, teaching administrators throughout campus. He was also employed at the Daily Hampshire Gazette.
Visiting hours will be held Friday, June 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Kostanski Funeral Home, 220 Federal St., Greenfield, MA. Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 21, at 1 p.m. at the Moores Corner Church, Church Hill Road, Leverett, with the Rev. Phillip Grant, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow at the Plainview Cemetery, North Leverett Road, Leverett.
